This relates to patterns in the environment, for example, when we talk about fingerprints, DNA or the tree rings that we count to establish the age of a tree. So there is information “about.” Then there is information “as” something instead of being “about” something, it’s really information “as” part of the world, out there. One is information about facts and reality – I like to call it the queen of all concepts of information, because it’s one of the most widely spread this concept relates to everything from train timetables telling me when the train leaves and from which platform, to what you find on Wikipedia. Basically, there are three main concepts, which are related but different.
